Mezze / Lebanese and Mediterranean / Floor 3, Soi 16

Yahya Qatramiz is Lebanese, born in Bangkok, which tells you most of what you need to know about why Mezze exists. His father opened Abu Khalil on Soi Nana in the 1980s, back when Middle Eastern food in Bangkok was a genuine novelty rather than a crowded category. Forty years of that family history sit behind every plate that comes out of this kitchen.

Mezze is on the third floor of a building on Soi 16, directly across from Kuppa, dressed in Mediterranean blue with curved archways and the kind of unhurried energy that makes an hour stretch into two. The menu covers cold and hot mezze, sharing platters from the grill, and a dessert list anchored by fresh baklava with yoghurt ice cream and a knafeh that is worth saving room for.

The ingredients are sourced from Syria and Lebanon where it makes a difference. The hummus truffle is made with care. The mixed grill platter arrives with the char still on it. Lebanese and Syrian wines are on the list, one of the few places in Bangkok where you can actually do that.

Some restaurants tell you about their heritage. This one just cooks it.
